Amal pre monobloc 76/276 air intake

This part was found on my Amal 276 air intake (india office 16H)... I think that it might be for the vokes filter, is that correct?

Re: Amal pre monobloc 76/276 air intake

Kostas, Looks like it!!!

But have never seen one with the ridge on it, could you send me some sizes please??

Looking at the parts list, there is indeed a little lip there, part 4026

Note also the fixed elbow.

Cheers,

Lex

OK thanks, looking forward to it, another puzzle solved, although it's not certain other makes used the same spigot??

The filters are around, start saving up, and keep watching Ebay Australia, that's where my last one came from.

Cheers,

Lex

I also notice that Norton didn't use the universal split three part elbow. This one would be easier to replicate. Ron

Re: Amal pre monobloc 76/276 air intake

I'm not sure that the 'split' elbow as used on the M20 was 'universal'..

Norton and Matchless both had alternative types and between the three of them accounted for the bulk of wartime production...

Did any others use the 'split' type?....Ian

Velocette MAF, Royal Enfield WD/CO, Ariel W/NG and possibly Triumph 3HW but I haven't got a picture of that one yet. Ron

Re: Amal pre monobloc 76/276 air intake

Remember that the parts list is from 1937, I did see the 1938 Big 4 had a fixed connection too, and another 16H aswell, but believe later ones had the adjustable type.

More research needed! to make the fixed type seems useless, unless you have a pre 1940 Norton bike. (I'll have a couple though Ron! they seem to be pressings instead of castings?)

Re: Amal pre monobloc 76/276 air intake

If it's original to an India Office bike rather than to a retro-fitted tank top filter then it is likely to relate to one of the rear-mounted cannister filters.
