My Harrison M300 lathe ground to a halt the other day and I suspected a motor failure...However, after dropping the motor and having it tested and serviced it appears that wasn't the problem after all...
It seems the inverter that converts the supply from single to three phase is the culprit..
Since mine was fitted, the new 'digital' inverters have come onto the market and I wondered if any forum members have experience of using these to run similar machines...Ian

Here in Oz I found it cheaper to have my main upgraded to 3 phase.
It cost less than $1000 compared to the cost of an inverter then was$4000.
I was also informed that one of my 15HP machines would still not run correctly on an inverter.
Is 3 phase mains a possibility for you?
Hi Darren...Here in the UK the 3 phase supply runs out in the road but the domestic supply is single phase...It is very expensive to have the 3 phase connected.
In my case the inverter cost is much lower as the largest motor I have is the lathe, rated at 3 horsepower...The others are 1.5 hp....
So I can get an inverter for £260-£450 pounds....Ian
Well I was thinking about going off line as I get good sunshile and a lot of wind.
An inverter big enough to fire up the Adcock Shipply No 2 mill was better than $ 3000 Aus and I would also need another $ 5000 worth of batteries so I look like paying the outragous $ 175/ quarter fee for the privilege of being connected to the grid for a while yet.
