Hello, can any one help me with a question about the rear lifting handle/mudguard stay. The part number changes about 1940. The re-pro ones on e-bay have the early part number, will these fit the later bikes if so what is the difference? Thanks in advance for any help.
Early lifting handles had a stud brazed onto them half way down the nearside 'leg'...This was the mounting for the field stand clip on machines that did not have panniers fitted...You can see it on the current forum photograph...
It was deleted when the pannier sets were introduced and the field stand clip was moved as a consequence...
Apart from that the lifting handles are identical....If it is a replica part it may be that they have got the number wrong...Ian
I have an original lifting handle/mudguard stay for sale, I also have a late war front stand / front mudguard stay if anybody is interested.
I also have two lower rear mudguard stays with the little stud for the pannier frames that I like to swap for early stays without that stud. Seems a shame to remove them.
