Remove the small nut at the top of the magdyno at the drive end. slacken the strap bolt, pull dynamo. Simples!

Slacken the large strap that holds the mag dyno unit in place, then slacken the small strap that holds the dynamo onto the magneto then undo the small nut that is at the top of the cover of the Magdyno which can be seen on the top of the teardrop shaped cover above the back of the timing cover . The dynamo should then slide out . Don't worry about disturbing the timing as it is pegged in on the bottom of the magneto and even if it moves it will still hold the timing correct when it is all clamped up

You forgot the rubber waterproof cap!

Norton's must be hi tech in this respect, well mine at least, as it recently displayed an auto eject option for the Dynamo.
After 4 - 5 hrs of riding i had to pull to a halt 10 minutes short of destination with the dynamo balanced on my left foot, in the pouring rain of course.
As a fellow local said recently, it's all part of the ritual humiliation with old bikes.
