I'll be at Stanford Hall on Sunday from beautiful Tilbury
I'll be there. I will be heading up about 04-00hrsI will be on the BSA stand with the raffle bike, flogging tickets so don't avoid the BSA stand, you may even get a brew
I will also have some solid copper M20 head gaskets with me to sell.

Managed to get along to Founders Day, but didn't arrive until 1 in the afternoon! I thought all the bargains would have gone, but I bought a 1942 dated early pattern fibre shell military motorcyclists helmet. It's in a bit of a state on the outside, but the leather is good. It's been painted over a couple of times and I will be restoring it to the khaki green that is showing through as the original colour on some of the divots. My question is, what colour would the string have been originally? Would the whole thing have been painted green after assembly or would the string have been added to a ready painted shell and therefore be string coloured?
How did everybody else do? Any bargains?
I went, but just bought a few consumables.
There was an ex Dutch army Triumph 3TA going for less £2,000
It made so much sense, a nice 350 twin engine, a lovely patina of age, plenty of obtainable spare, good luggage carrying capacity---- I was smitten.
I had to tell my mates that if they saw me walking back towards it, to trip me up and sit on me
No Pete, wash your mouth out. It makes as much sense as a WD Norton Navigator ! A rattly rev-box...
Yes, those Triumphs 3TA are real nice bikes; there were 1100 of them in 1966/67 and quite a few remain. I had several myself, either restored them to original specs or made a nice civilian conversion for my daughter
. And in good shape, GBP 2000 is not too much. There is a website dedicated to them, can't find it at the moment

No label on this one Lex. Its had a hard life, but its rubbed down and repainted nicely now. It had a Isle of Man transfer celebrating 50 years of racing from 1907 to 1967 on the side. I tried to wet it and get it off, but it came off in bits and has now turned to tiny flakes, which I feel bad about, but at least the helmet itself looks a bit better now. Ill take you up on your offer of some images Lex and Ill PM you in a bit.
I had a good day at Stanford...
I met up with TT John, Pete Ingram, Jon Small, Mick Holmes and others...Picked up a horn for the Model K and some rusted out footboard mountings that will serve as a pattern for me to manufacture replicas...
As always I also bought some stainless steel parts for my other projects...
WW1 bikes were thin on the ground despite that being the 'theme' of the day and unfortunately the only Model K was an unrestored one in pretty rough condition, so no opportunity to examine the details of a good restored example.
I also spotted Tim Walkers 'special' on the Brough Superior stand so was able to have a good look at that...and a very nice job it is...
Unfortunately he wasn't about..only some very 'up themselves' Brough owners...
There were lots of very nice bikes to see though, ranging from WW1 through the 20's,30's, 40's etc...
Stanford Hall itself is undergoing some refurbishment as it has changed hands and is going to be used as a rehabilitation centre for troops wounded in Afghanistan etc....I must say it would be harder to pick a more pleasant location than this English country house set in extensive grounds....
I picked up a few other bits and pieces in the jumble and all in all had a very enjoyable day...Bikes and sunshine...It's all you nead really..

Ian.
Sorry mate but you got it wrong, that Stanford hall is not being refurbished for the rehabilitation of the troops, its the other Stanford hall, there are two Stanford halls in Leicestershire, its the other one that has been designated for that job.
I knew you had a good day, when I saw you dancing to the beat of the music from the hippie camp

Ian,
TT John is correct its the other Stanford Hall, so we should be ok for a few more years. Me and the boss went down Saturday night with the special and the 1920 Duzmo in the back of the van, we had a bit of a Duzmo motorcycle display sunday, so thought i would take the special ( Francis Superior SS500 Georges secret machine) and shove it near the BS stand. I had a made up a history board and stood it next to the bike, pity you did not get chance to read it, Its all true.
When we got there Sat night the Love rave at the other side of the Hall was in full swing so we had a few pints in the taverners beer tent then jumped over the fence, got into the sleeping bag at 2am, it was an eye opener but a good laugh. Up a few hours latter for a early jumble session.
Don't know how the Francis Superior went down with the BS lot.
Well i am at it i will write a mail to the VMCC and the taverners section thanking them for putting the rave on and see if they can do it next year.

As always a decent autojumble for those who know what they're looking for, I seem to look at things and miss what I need!! I did buy a nice 8inch headlight deflector/shroud and an early version at that as kindly pointed out by Ian. Successfully managed the first run out on the M20 and sidecar which will obviously take a bit of getting use to.

Tim...I didn't hang about and got off the Rough Inferior stand before they sent me to the workhouse for not being worthy....The worst sort of snobbery and not my type of people frankly...If that's what owning a leg end and having a few bob does to you I'll stick to my working class BSAs and my wottle and daub hovel...
Interesting about there being two Stanford Halls...Quite a few people seemed to have been fooled as I was..

I Always coveted that Duzmo since I saw it at Ivan Rhodes place many many years ago.
He asked a grand for it,which I didn't have, seems cheap now
