SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

I have one of these spark plug caps...

...but am unsure what fitting goes onto the HT lead in order to connect to it -
would it be one of these?

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

Hi Scorp,

If I remember correctly,
The HT lead should first go inside the Bakelite, all the way and out
From the place where the sparkplug enter.
Then, when you have some slack of HT wire out, you clamp it,
(Better also solder the lead, after passing it through the hole in the front of the metal part, and press the top spike into the HT insulating rubber)
And then you retract it all back into the Bakelite, and you are ready to go.

Good luck,
Noam.

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

Scorp. This is the KLG cap as used by BSA and the brass end that is soldered to the HT lead. These ends are obtainable from 'The Green Spark plug co'

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

Thanks Ron
The KLG cap looks exactly the same as the Champion item, except for the name. I'll order one of the terminals that you've shown.

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

I am using the Champion Backlit head,
With the fitting shown in Scorpion's picture.. (The top set)
I remember inserting it as I described,
As it would not pass any other way. It was not easy,
And now I understand why.. Maybe I needed the spade type..

The "Champion", and as can be seen if comparing the photos,
It is nothing like the KLG, only the same style.

If you need the one like Ron has, which would probably work better than
The one I am using, I found some here:

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

Hi Ron,

Yes, you are correct..
I was reading fast, and I caught the word "obtainable" as "obsolete".
Not very similar, I know, but both words are starting with "ob"
And ends with an "e", I was tiered and English is not my native language, so..

When I found it, I was glad, and thought:
"It is obsolete, but here, I found another source"...

By the way, I was using those ends for a long time with no
"Champion" or "KLG" body:
Only this spade type end screwed to the sparkplug.

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

Yes I do that also Noam. But I have also found out, that lots of WD makes were fitted with this Lodge cap. These plug onto an upside down knurled top nut. These are also quite hard to find, but I have sent one to France, where hopefully they will be reproduced. Ron

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

That's a very nice cap Ron.

Very "periodic" design.
Today all is "functional"..

Cheers,
Noam.

Re: SPARK PLUG CAP/HT LEAD TERMINAL QUERY

one plausible alternative i considered before i found an original was a seagull outboard motor cap. they are quite close, just sandpaper off the words seagull and shorten some of the 'skirt'.
