M01 dimensions

Is there any dimensional drawings for the M01 magneto unit.
I want to refurbish one, and I have a good body, but the mounting platform is worn on one side.
I want to mill off enough from the base, to make it parallel again with the centre line of the armature.
Then I can make a thin alloy plate to build it back again to the correct height.
Only needs about 3/32" or 1/8" max.
Either this, or have the wear built back up again with alloy welding.
Not sure though about the heat effect on the residual magnetism.
Anyway, does anyone have the distance between the base, and armature centre line.
Thanks in advance.

Re: M01 dimensions

I believe that it should be 45mm - Lucas took on Bosch standards in order to ensure compatibilty.

The 'Radco' book "The Vintage Motorcyclist's Workshop" includes a spindle height table for various mags. It used to be viewable on-line somewhere.

You have very little to play with before you break into the drive end gear housing...

I prefer to spot face the body around the stud holes to clean up and level and then fit four thin spacers (or 3 if you have an Ariel)...There is usually an unworn area that will allow you to set it up square....

On an M20 the base generally wears more along the axis of the rearmost pair of the four locating dowels...Ian

Re: M01 dimensions

Don't weld it, the magnetism will be destroyed.

Re: M01 dimensions

They are easy to remagnetize. Lucas has a pamphlet on that. I'll send a copy to anyone who wants one.
