Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

I've completely restored one from Egypt and it may be the case if you can select a good one they are OK..

However, the one I did required the replacement of so much of it that it wasn't really the same bike by the time I'd finished...

The engine and gearbox overhaul on another was much the same and I also did a lot of work on one from Pakistan which arguably was worse...

I wouldn't go near another one myself...Ian

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

I emailed the guy and offered £1000 for one of the basket cases(which they are now)but he declined....you would need to spend at least 3 grand and lots of hours to get one of these in shape, better to buy a complete bike.

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

Hi Rik, one of those with WM stamped on frame....but he,s trying to find a mug out there who would pay silly money...at the moment girder M20s in running order are selling for £3500-5500 depending on spec.

By the way Rik, That BAP gearbox is now fitted to the Ariel WNG and runs great, done 450 miles so far( rivet counters will probably say that's the wrong box as the filler cap is at the front) but you know what my reply would be!

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

I've had my fair share of bodged bikes from abroad, just like the G3L I have now from Burma, I threw everything away and Started again.
Back to the WM20s I was looking at the black one, the chap ask me a good price, I think that ones the 1944 but again there are some bits that are wrong, from what numbers the guys listed can any one work out any info on em.
If I was to view the bike I will look it over every inch.

Thanks Barry

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

further down the listing he says there now dismantled with parts like handlebars etc missing. So they must be even worse than in the photos.

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

They also have non standard Egyptian style paint jobs...That means they were used...probably hard and probably for decades, with a minimal amount of money spent on spare parts...That's what they do in third world countries...

Do yourselves a favour and run away...

I sold some bits to a guy who was rebuilding an ex Egypt bike and he had spent a fortune on it...so much, in fact, he could have bought a nice restored one and had change...
In the end he just regarded it as some sort of perverse challenge, ignored the money and was only focused on 'beating the problem'... ...Ian

Re: Bsa restoration projects on ebay uk

You know, i can imagine that. Once you start a restoration there is no way back. It becomes a matter of "personal honour"...

Still, most of us would be challenged by bikes like this. Maybe thats why project bikes sometimes sell so well compared to good complete runners.
