Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

Hi all

On the early m20 deluxe type models, they were equipped with a rubber mount handlebar assy

Keeping all this in place were 2 large retaining nuts, part reference 15-5285

Does anyone have the following information
Thread type
Thickness
Head size ( spanner size)

I need to get these made up as I I have to try salvage what I have left of the assy

Many thanks

John

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

Job
It is 33 mm across the flats( a 3/4" whit worth) spanner fits. 5mm thick, sorry I don't know the TPI

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

The nuts aren't just flat sided nuts. The inner face of each nut is curved to fit the shape of the washers which are also curved (slightly conical) this is to ensure even pressure on the washers/rubbers.
to give an idea of what I mean the curved side of each nut would fit snugly on the surface of a sphere about the size of a football.
here's a shot showing the shape which is followed by both the locking washer & the nut inner face....

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

Thanks all

The main holder requires work & the threads are damaged also, maybe too much to be recovered, but I do want to try

Now that I know the sizes - the thread type will be next confirmation needed

If anyone has that I would be grateful to hear from you

Best regards

John

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

RE measurements
they aren't 5mm thick, that wouldn't leave enough for the chamfer & for the inner scalloped shape. they definitely are closer to 8mm when I just measured 4 on bikes.

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

Yes, height is 7.7mm with a concave to match the thick washers. Threads are 1 1/16 x 20 TPI.

John, I have two chromed nuts lying around here doing nothing, one reasonable, one pitted. There are yours if you like. Can be restored and replated but you probably better have some new ones made. Contact me if interested than I will make some pictures.

Re: Rubber mount handlebar mount - damper retaining nut

Hi Rik

We had none of that kind of talk in holy ireland years ago

Easier to get mind enhancing substances than rubbers back in the day

:-D
