Hi all,

today I finalized my wiring on my Norton 16H.
I guessed my bike was not equipped with a regulator as the lightning switch was with a charge reduction resistor (Has 4 positions OFF, T, L, H). As I wanted to have modern charging I bought a DVR2 regulator from Dynamo Regulators and installed the wires according to this plan

Batterie is charging, horn is working, rear light is working but I have a problem with my front light. I only have very weak light on the front bulb. After checking the front light I found out this

So the problem is clear for me, independent of the position of the dip switch only the 3W filament is in operation. Checking this diagram

assume there is either a wire missing on my bulb connector or I used the wrong wiring diagram. Also I don't have a Pilot Bulb in my front lamp.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem, I am somehow lost now.

Phillip, You may not actually have a problem (although an Off, Tail, Low, High Switch is not the same as the resistor-equipped Off, Charge, Low, High pre-1937 third brush switch).

The standard headlamp bulb should be 24/24w...I don't know what an 18/3w is...some sort of stop / tail ?

'Low' on these switches is the pilot light so you will be missing that with your reflector (which is probably from a car with separate side lights).

However, you should be illuminating a 24w filament on both positions of the dip switch...One being slightly higher than the other, but it makes very little difference...you won't be dazzling S-Klasse Mercedes at 500 meters !

HI Phillip,

Rick and Bram had good points.

Another thing I can offer, is to check if the contacts under the lamp
Are touching the bottom of the bulb in a way that the 3W contact is touching
Between the 2 contact of the housing,(The voltage supply) so it does not matter which wire you use you will still hit the 3W wire anyway..

As Rick pointed, it is probably a rear stop/pilot bulb.
Using the correct bulb should solve the problem.

With sanding I mean sanding of the paint between the connections from the frame to the front fork parts including
the connections to the headlight.
