Hi

I have a Triumph 3HW, which has the date 8-43 punched on the frame,but has an chassis number from a 1944 contract. the bike has 7/8ths handle bar and no steering damper. Could this be correct or was the chassis number tampered with.

Some pictures of the stamping would be good Dorian. I don't know why Triumph date stamped their front frame sections. But they could have been stamped at production time with the frame number added when the frame was used from stock. My own 3HW is one of these later bikes from 44 with 7/8" bars and no steering damper. Mine is dated TEC 9.44. Ron

Dorian. To my eye in that picture, you can actually see the flat spot where the frame number has been sanded off. And where is the 'TL'. There seems to be an awfull lot of file marks on the engine case also Ron
