Hi All
Sorry to ask yet another question but took off the Chaincase to inspect the clutch and look where I thought I heard an odd sound when trying to put it in gear.
When I removed the cover I found this. It looks like the two should be locating but I may be wrong. Thought it best to ask as I think it may have been rubbing on the casing.
So is this right? If it is how do I go about locating it back. I gave it a few taps but wasnt going to budge and I wouldn't want to wrongly mess with that spring!
Normally a few kicks on the kick starter should bring them back in place. It seems like a nut that isn't TIGHT on the crankshaft. You really have to tighten this nut properly.
This happened on my Shooting Star. Undo the nut a bit, watch the thread to see how far to undo without a big bang, all you want is a bit of slack on the spring, then a sharp tap with a hammer and punch should do it. Worked for me. Failing that a large pair of Stiltsons. Clean up the threads afterward and apply some Loctite to the threads before locking nut back up.
Looks like yours did the same as mine and chipped bits off the top of the 'ramps' needing new parts. The cause on mine was a pattern nut on the end. Now it won't go over centre, the coils bind first.
