Yes, I saw that on the news, always hated the tax disc ruining the WW2 effect.

That's great! mine fell off in Belgium in September and ended up bouncing like Barnes Wallace into the canal near Ostend!
I never put a tax disc on a bike, I always thought it spoilt the look, and half the time they weren't taxed if I was only using it for a few months in the Summer. I'm now a converted character and all the bikes I use are taxed (especially as it's free now) but I still don't put a disc on a bike. I remember parking my Trident in town in the early 80's, when I walked back to it a copper was waiting by my bike. I knew it was because there was no tax disc, it was in my top pocket with my other documents (which I found was easier to carry around than have to produce them). I couldn't be bothered with him so walked past and around town for another half hour. I got back and he was still there waiting. As I got on the bike he said where's your tax? To which I got it out of my pocket with my other documents and I was all legal.
Obviously annoyed about this he said why isn't your tax disc on your bike? I said it vibrated off! He must have pass the Police sarcasm course with flying colours as he said Well vibrate it back on again!! I managed to vibrate it back into my top pocket
As the Police follow you now, they know straight away if your insured taxed etc and don't even bother stopping you. The only document you need on you now is a driving licence.

You were lucky Horror. Some years ago, I had a tax disc holder unwind itself and fly off without me noticing. The copper who stopped me threw the book at me and I ended up answering the charge of 'Failure to Display a Current Road Fund Licence'. The fact that I could prove I had one before it flew off was deemed irrelevant, the failure to display was enough in itself and in the end it cost me £80 plus costs.

how long ago was that? £80 is a bit excessive, I've been fined less than that for not having tax.

saying how to prove the vehicle is taxed wouldn't you have a print off of the email but what is going to happen to people who go to the post office to get their tax would they just get a piece of paper and the tax is well out of date on this web site

I agree Fred that you shouldn't have to carry ID, I was arrested once because I couldn't prove who I was on a routine stop and stayed down the cells until they were happy I was who I said I was. I was stopped in my old Morris Minor van and the 2 coppers started doing what was basically a roadside MOT. The only thing wrong was the hand brake didn't hold the van when they pushed it. My name didn't check out to my address because I never filled out the census. They said they had to prove who I was so a summons could be sent, if they weren't happy I was who I said I was, I would appear in court in the morning. They still couldn't prove who I was, so they phoned my house and my lodger at the time had to describe me over the phone to them Half a day later I was released, but not until they had to cook me pie chips and beans for tea
Their words to me as I left were this would have been avoided if I had ID, I said is it law now to carry ID then? They impounded my van until I could prove I had a licence and insurance etc and I had to walk home from the station. They'd searched my van and broke the Bakelite horn centre in the steering wheel.
It's a lot less hassle to just give them my licence these days

I never knew about that Rob, the first disc you show says not for WD vehicles so it must be only for civvy vehicles.
Thanks for the info about my arrest by the Police Richard, I don't think anyone had hear of human rights in the 80's, especially the Police
