Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Hi, BGB is Burman gearboxes, so Ariel or RE, not AMC I think, someone could look up the number.

Cheers, Lex

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

It's still in the original box and it can change hands for VERY little money.

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

The Ariel part number is 3121-34 23T 3rd layshaft gear. I haven't got an RE parts list for a Burman box though. Mine are all Albion boxes. is LV7 an AM part number as opposed to the MT for WD? Ron

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Ron, think only the prefix is different on the Air Ministry numbers, but not 100% sure.

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

The number for the Royal Enfield WD/CO/B gearbox part is 25C.m/5 according to the parts list. So it doesn't seem to be an Enfield part either...

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Jan, that is such a close number sequence. It must be Enfield. Are you definitely looking at Lay shaft gears, not main shaft Ron

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Well, if Henk can count the teeth, we're a lot further!!

Matchless G3l has the number 25C M5 (21 teeth), so also close!!

Matchless G3WO has the number UF 25 C3 (23 teeth) so must be that??

Cheers,

Lex

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Hi Guys,
Assuming it has 23 teeth it will also fit the G3 box, but not the G3L (21T).
AMC and Enfield use Burman numbers. 25C is the number for the layshaft third gear, the M3 or just 3 is the version (or mark in Burman speak} of that gear.
I.E. the G3L version is 25C/M5.
Cheers, Mick.

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Yes I can still count my teeth and it's 23 teeth, on the motorcycle part I mean. Let me know if anybody is interested and you can have it for free.

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

Henk, if you find a Norton gearbox that you can't identify, I'll tell you what it is and take it off your hands for free !

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

I think it's the 12th. version, second generation, fifth series, 58th production batch of the Mk 19 third gear for a Matchless late edition, 4th pattern layshaft as fitted to an 'M' suffix /27 group gearbox and it was only made between 1.11 and 10.36 pm. on the 18th January 1942 at the Plumstead main works...just after they produced the 3rd. pattern rear stand spring but before the nightshift redesigned the big end... ....Ian

Re: Anybody any idea what this is?

It's yours Lex and Rik I do have a strangely shaped gearbox here that I haven't been able to identify so far.
