Girder Forks - rust problem - help !

How that I have got the forks back from the blasters I can see a potential problem with regards to rust damage.

The maximum depth of decay is 3 mm.

Can I get away with filling the hole with braze, or is the problem more serious?

Would the braze be strong enough,if it were mine I would build it up with weld.

Re: Girder Forks - rust problem - help !

As Ian says best to fill it with steel weld rather than braze, If that's the only area on the Norton fork with this depth of damage i cannot see it as a problem. I know it's close to the wheel but it has the cable and brake stop casting to give it some suport. If you gas weld it make sure you do not let the braze run from the castings.

Hi Ian...Get it tig welded to keep the heat more localised. Ideally you will need to get rid of that red oxide you have just applied as well (in the area of the weld)....
I know a good bloke in Tavistock if you don't have anyone near you...Mail me if you want his contact details...(this post is mainly for people called Ian)..Ian
