Hello, i was taking a look at my tappet spanners and out of 2, i have 2 that were filed down from the thickness from the smaller side. can this in anyway be factory made or it was common practice in workshops to make access easier to the tappet?

mine are the same - so i'm guessing factory?

i got another one which is not.....also the shape is slightly different on the outside in lacking the 'straight' part on the head.

All mine have been reduced but you are right its very roughly done.
