Would it be enough to change only the end plate to convert the use of advance/retard lever

You may have to slot the face cam for the new position of the advance cable. But be awere that if you alter the position of the opening of the points this could alter the internal timing of the magneto, ie the magnetic flux this should be at its highest as the points open. If your M runs OK before don't alter the slot for the max anvavce and retard on the face cam just cut a new slot for the advace cable.

The cam for slack or pull advance are not the same.
If you replace the complete end: cover & cam, all should be good.
(There is a rivet which needs to be taken out in order to replace the cam)
