Exhaust and kickstart return woes

So I'm at the stage of installing exhaust system and I find the (used) exhaust and silencer are off... The silencer has a slight upturned inlet of 1 & 7/8 , and the exhaust is a straight pipe of 1 & 3/4. No big problem, I cut a 3 inch piece of spare pipe, cut a slot and tipped up the exhaust terminus. Fit seems great, though a bit of weld showing.
Tried to install the kickstart and make sure all cleared, then ..
AArgh, seems like the return spring is broken.
Looks like I have to pull the gearbox end cover and replace the spring. . Anybody have a spare spring?

Part number for spring? I have 66-3058 but some dealers list this spring as "not for WD models"? Is there a different spring with same part number? Or will the later spring work in the WD gearbox?

Thanks Neale, lots of great info there. I plat n to pull the gearbox cover tonight or tomorrow.

Pulled off the outer cover, and found there was no spring at all installed! Also missing the screw and outer locknut to hold the end so will need to find a suitable replacement for that too. Obviously somebody has had this apart since it last ran.
