What's a safe working clearance for the exhaust valve lifter on an M20? The books all say 'working clearance.' Hmmm??!?

Also, is it best to set up the lifter arm so it is horizontal where the cable attaches?

I set mine, after a top end rebuild, to about 2 mm play and then checked it when the engine was warm to make sure there was still play. Seemed to be OK. This was with the arm horizontal. It is not a critical area as long as there is still play when the engine is warm.
