I read an article re 5000 Indian motorcycle and sidecars ordered by the French shipped to them march 1940 but was sunk by a German sub on the way over maybe those deep sea treasure hunters could go and rescue them they have got to have been crated and greased

If they are anything like the unfortunate bikes on SS Thistlegorm, you'd need to be a very brave restorer indeed.

This story of the 1200cc French Contract Indian CAV's is comepletely untrue!

All info is in the book "An American in Paris" and that fully uncovers the whole story about the ship SS Hanseatic Star, that was supposed to be sunk, but it never was!!!

There was an early Indian book by Harry V. Sucher, that told the story in the 70's, but based on rumors etc.

So no need to get the scuba gear out yet!

What is a true story, is the Velocettes sunk off the coast of France, in early 1940, but what I've gathered they are in very dangerous water, where diving is extremely dangerous.
