testing armature

When testing the armature with a 2v battery, it should give around 4 amp.
But mine stops at 3,1 amp. Does that mean that the item is faulty or at the brink of

Just take it to an auto electrical shop for a growler test. It's the only positive test.

Thanks Douglas for the advice. But I thought this type of test goes for the dynamo armature. Anyway, the point is that there is a spark with the other test method. If they were not so expensive I bought one .

Usually if they look ok and don't smell of burning they are usually ok. A starter motor/dynamo reconditioners told me that and although I have a growler it rings true. I've never had one that looks ok and dosen't smell that fails on the growler. He never uses his growler any more and he does it for a living!
PS no, he dosen't want to sell it!
