hi chaps, i was just wondering what the white mark means on the tip of the front mudguards, is it some sort of division mark or a replicated gas detector paint?
barry
It was originally a UK thing for better visibility under the severe blackout regs early on in the war....particularly for convoy marking and distance, although the use was not as widespread later in the war as many restored bikes today suggest...........
Mine had the white patch when I purchased it, but being a 1940 model I guess that the Blitz made sure of the need for visibility in the dark. I believe they were also for pedestrians as the blackout should shine on the white patch and therefore see the vehicle in the dark.
