Clutch basket lose

I took my 1942 WDM20 for a ride with the local vintage bike club on the weekend. Got half way through the run when the I lost the ability to disengage the clutch. The problem was that the castle nut had come lose. However after I tighten the nut the basket was still able to be wobbled a bit. Should the basket be ridged or have some movement?

Re: Clutch basket lose

Hi Bryce..Wear in the clutch basket roller track, rollers and clutch sleeve roller track will allow some 'rock' in the clutch sprocket...Nothing to worry about as long as you can set up the clutch OK....
The clutch spring nut shouldn't come loose if you tighten it all the way up until it 'bottoms out' and then knock it up tight with a soft drift and a hammer...(or air tool etc.)...It does need to be well tightened though...Ian
