M20 Rear Frame

The top tubes on the rear frame which meet the front section under the seat have started to open up from rust etc, this is where they have been flattened to take the bolt.Has anybody tried replacing the shims inside or is it just a matter of welding the end up? Regards.Mick W.

Re: M20 Rear Frame

Hi,
I did weld mine up years ago.
The holes were very worn
Furthermore i placed a steel bush (in two halves) inside the frame to prevent it from squeezing.

Re: M20 Rear Frame

I brazed mine. Get it good and hot and the brass will flow into the voids just like solder.

The bushing is a good idea. I wish I had thought of it!

I designed a gage to make straightening that rear frame section easy.

I'll send a drawing if you want.

Re: M20 Rear Frame

Hi Robb
I have a slight bow in my rear frame and am planning to straighten this out
some time. I will be grateful if you can send me a drawing of your guage.
Thanks
Peter

Re: M20 Rear Frame

Hi Peter,

You should have it by now.

It's normal to have a slight bow on the left side of the bike. There is
a factory illustration in the chapter I sent you. Look at it carefully
and make the measurements.

Cheers

Re: M20 Rear Frame

So many people assume their frame is bent when most rear tubes on most rigid bikes are offset for the chainline.

Thanks Douglas............

I wanted to say that, but did not have the words.
