Found on Dartmoor, Headlamp glass !

Mooching about on the Moor last week I found in the hedge a Lucas headlamp glass. The oa dia is 9" the lens is 8", it has a cast in number D903 on the edge. Any ideas as to what it's off or any info, or has anybody any use for it.

Cheers Pat

More to the point Pat. What sort of activity were you up to that involved mooching about peering through hedges? Ron

Not much to ogle there!!

Anyway, if the glass is flat and fluted, I'd be interested.

Re: Found on Dartmoor, Headlamp glass !

Ah sure everyone knows that the hedgehog has never been buggered at all!

If I may quote from the famous drinking song....

"In the anals of syphulization, from anthropod ape down to man,
It is commonly held that the Navy has buggered whatever it can.
But recent extensive researches, by Darwin and Huxley and Hall,
Conclusively prove that the hedgehog has never been buggered at all."

Re: Found on Dartmoor, Headlamp glass !

Hi Pat,

I found what the round glass with this code D903 is:

"Universal glass lid, diameter 24 cm., code D903":

Noam.

And now for real..

Vintage 9 inch Lucas Headlight Lens U Pattern D903 LBD 166 (Prewar)

If this is the one, I found it is from
"Lucas king of the road" and would go with 1930's MG's and Triumph cars.

Re: Found on Dartmoor, Headlamp glass !

Thanks Noam (and others), The lens is domed with U shaped patterns in the centre. I was staying on Dartmoor and read a book about a scrapyard that was in the village. It started after the war clearing American war salvage, finally closing in 1998. The interesting bit was the old boy who worked there, living in a hut and collecting old bikes and bits. The lens had fallen out of a nearby bank.

Cheers Pat

Ps where are all the sheep ones!
