1942 BSA M20 fuel petcock diameter

Hi I am trying to buy a tap and dye set for my fuel tank because somebody plugged the hole with a bolt that is not the correct size. Does anyone know the correct pitch and diameter.

Re: 1942 BSA M20 fuel petcock diameter

Hi Barrett..The thread into the tank is 3/8"BSP (British Standard Pipe) The thread in the tank insert which the tap screws into, will be either 1/8" BSP or 1/4" BSP...1/8th has an actual outside diameter of approximately 3/8"...1/4" has an actual outside diameter of approx. 1/2". Note that the thread is BSP..NOT BSP(T)...BSPT is used for plumbing fittings and is the tapered form. The motorcycle threads are parallel...Ian
