I am new to this engine, having rescued a 1949 example from a farm shed recently. Seems all intact and the bike rolls smoothly and brakes still work. Oddly it also turned over really smoothly and far too easily. Further examination revealed that the exhaust valve was free and operating correctly but the inlet valve is stuck open and is not contacted by the lifter. I have not yet taken off the head to investigate this but would be interested in any experience anybody else has had of this odd situation. Many thanks. Mike
Hi Mike, the reason is prolly that the engine was stopped and the valve was open then. After years stood like that dust and muck will have gummed it there.
Shouldn't take long to free it off but there may be some muck in the cylinder
which will need looking at.Good luck with your find
cheers Rick
