Gruppo Velox Norton 16H

http://www.flickr.com/photos/fredex04/5634111894/ Here's one for you Norton boys...A 16H with the Gruppo Velox ohv conversion made by the Italians just after the war...Nicely done I must say. I am just finishing the rebuild of a BSA version at the moment...I'll post some pics when the engine is completed...Ian

Hi Ian,
What do you think about this OHV?

I like it more than the Italian job.

Regards,

Sven
p.s. looking forward to your BSA pictures

Re: Gruppo Velox Norton 16H

Hi Sven...That is an odd one for sure...Reading the auction info. I'm not surprised in the least that the exhaust manifold bend gets red hot... ...Ian

Re: Gruppo Velox Norton 16H

Anyone got any detailed history of the velox gruppo company? Pity they aren't still around with all the industrial M20 motors around here in Oz. A mate of mine has 5 lying around. They were used as power supply for swing saws here.

Re: Gruppo Velox Norton 16H

One thing's for sure...these engines aren't as sporty as they look..As the kit drops right onto an M20 bottom end it retains the lumpy flywheels and mild cams of that model. It probably won't go as well as a standard B33 without some more substantial work. You also have the long and very flexible M20 con rod, so you wouldn't want to be revving it too much through the gears...
Saying that the port layout and valves are reasonable so the makings are there..No doubt the limitations are similar with the Norton kit, which looks virtually identical....Ian
