Tavery the dual purpose of this external spring is to stop the crank bouncing when on rough terrain and also to catch the crank if the internal spring breaks. Somewhere I have some of these. Otherwise I think Lex has some. Ron
I reckon that it's just a bit of a back up as the Burman spring is quite a weak spring, so I think when off roading the kickstart may move around and I suppose it would stop the ratchet from engaging if the spring ever broke.
Hi Robb, the common concensus is that the Indian mudguards are pretty good and most people who have fitted them are pleased with the fit of them. I had a pair of original ones that were a little bit too much work to repair, I got the Indian ones and they compared well against the originals and only needed a tiny bit of fettling to get to fit but it seems that nearly every one whether it's an original or repro would need a little bit of tweaking to fit
