Re: slight off topic, help advise re b33 head stabilisation (no lug on head)
Just a thought, and it may not be an issue for you, but on my B31 there’s not a lot of space between the inlet rocker cover at it’s highest point and the top frame tube. I’m not sure I would be able to fit a metal plate, thick enough to act as a head steady mount, between the head and cover without it causing the cover to foul the frame.
If it does fit, then at least the tappet adjustment method on these bikes means you won’t have to keep opening it up.
Re: slight off topic, help advise re b33 head stabilisation (no lug on head)
Hi Maxwell..Yes, I don't think that would work due to lack of frame clearance on rigid and plunger models..though it is a neat idea. I would think the plate would need to be at least 3/8" thick if made from steel.
Triumphs have the head steady at the front with a 'P' clamp round the front down tube. Using this method you could fit it under the front rocker cover but you would also have to look at the practicalities of remaking the valve lifter cam (it would need to be longer and/or a different shape) to retain that facility..Alternatively you could talk to a good welder re: the prospects for welding a head steady lug back onto the head..Ian

Hi Maxwell...The welder you spoke to must be a lunatic asking that much for a small job like that...However, I think you'll be alright using the four bolts that hold the cover on...I use the rocker cover bolts to hold the head in a jig when machining the underside/ valve seats etc....Ian
