Where was this picture taken. I assume somewhere in Holland according NBS on the petrol tank.
Looks like this bike must have been used by the Germans since the early days of war. (maybe Dunkirk) and again captured by the Dutch resistance in 1945.
I can't find any info. on the NBS...It was not one of the resistance movements 'recognised' by the allies...There were a lot of seperate groups in the Netherlands apparently....Can anyone provide more information?....Ian
NBS means in Dutch "Nederlandse Binnenlandse strijdkrachten" which means "Dutch Internal armed Forces". The name of the Dutch armed resistance and accepted and authorized by Prins Bernhard. The NBS consisted of several local resistance groups. They mainly operated in 1944/1945 during and after liberation by the allied forces.
Thanks Ramon....Henk mentioned the NSB....my wifes Uncle was in that, so wasn't very popular in the family apparently....Ian
Hi Ian,
The NSB (Not NBS) was something different, as Henk already mentioned. In Dutch it was "Nationaal Socialistische Beweging". It was a Dutch political organisation/movement that was started in Holland before the war and was cooperating with the Germans all through the war. The movement shared fairly the same political ideals as the Germans before and during the war. Yes, the members of the NSB were very impopular in Holland.
Hi Ramon...I guess there were people from all countries in the 30's who believed fascism (or National Socialism) was the way forward...You only have to look at the German Army and realise how many nationalities volunteered for service with them. My wifes family were from Rotterdam (though she was born in England)..Her 'Van Evelingen' surname is the giveaway.. ...Ian
