This is how I measure a speedo cable when ordering from Tom or Dave at JJ Cables and the way they seem to prefer it. (It's horrible if your cable is too long) From start of thread to start of thread and in the case of this example I would tell them 8". As long as you tell them that's how you did it. Ron

Also make sure when fitting a new cable that the inner cable is not too long at the speedo end. When the end of the cable is fitted into the speedo the crimped on brass collar should contact the base of the threaded part of the speedo..or be virtually touching. Too much inner cable being forced into the speedo by doing up the nut when the collar is too far from the thread can damage the speedo mechanism...Ian
