actually I am working on my handlebar after I have collected all parts for it.
When I mount all the parts I ran into the following problem.
The handle bar diameter is 1". On the right hand side there is a limited diameter and I thought this is correct to fit the throttle part onto it.
But!! as you can see on the right hand side the distance the diameter is reduced is about 17mm but the throttle length is 14,5mm. The Throttle could not be clamped onto the handle bar because the diameter is to small.?? On the left hand side the throttle would fit perfect although the diameter is 1". The Inner diameter of the throttle is 25,5mm so enough to fit a 1" handle bar.
Any ideas? Maybe the Handle bar is wrong and I need to rework the diameter somehow
Yes in their wisdom Triumph made handlebars for pre war bikes which had a daft 15/16" (23.8mm) diameter for the throttle, meaning only a special Triumph twist grip would fit. Ron
As far a my information goes, on the period we are looking at:
All Norton (16H and big4) handlebars were of constant diameter and up to late 1944/1945 they were all 1" in diameter.
Only contract S5161 had 7/8th inch handlebars.
From 1935 upwards all civilian handlebars up to 1940 and military Big 4 handlebars were rubber mounted and provided with the U form bracket in the middle.
As I said before Phillip, only a Triumph twist grip will fit. However WD Triumphs were made to accept standard 1" or 7/8" twist grips, so I will be sleeving it up for a standard 1" grip. You should be able to offer yours for sale to a Triumph guy though. Ron
