I've just been given a hefty single open ended BSA spanner marked BSA No29.
The jaws are marked as 3/4 and measure 1 5/8" across. Spanner is about 11" oa.
Am I right in thinking this is not a bike spanner ? and if not what might it be for. Did the BSA group make a lot of BSA marked tools for applications other than the motorcycles ?

Hi David..Basically BSA made thousands of differet tools for different applications..spanners, sockets, box spanners, taps, dies, reamers, broaches etc. etc. right up to machine tools of all types and specialist machinery. They also made the first ceramic lathe tool tips.....Ian

Some of the smaller sizes of these BSA open end spanner are pretty rare and collectors pay a lot of money for these. Not sure which size. Very nice looking tools.

Thanks Ian. Did these tools tend to be BSA marked and is there some form of list or catalogue published which would tell me what this spanner-No.29 is for. I've been told that I can keep it if I find out what its for !!

David I just had a thought. This is another BSA product. Inside the lid of the leather spares box is a list of equipment that should be present. In this list it mentions spanners No 265 and No 266 without giving a size. Maybe your spanner is for an Artillery piece. I suppose any such piece of equipment with a set tool kit could have used just a number on a tool......Like say a number 8 spanner in a steam loco kit. Ron
