Tappet cover thickness

I have an earlier engine with the Aluminum cast 3-rifles tappet cover, and a later spare engine with no cover. Looks simple enough to fabricate a steel version, but wondering how thick the original was made. If somebody has an original laying about, could you measure it's thickness for me?
Thanks, Vincent

Re: Tappet cover thickness

So take 4mm sheet steel, and file down to 3.2mm; excellent exercise, both for your arm muscles and state of mind

Re: Tappet cover thickness

Thanks, I had figured it was probably 1/8 steel. Actually a kind member has offered me a surplus cover so I wont' have to work out my arm muscles, wouldn't want to look too buff! Thanks James!

Re: Tappet cover thickness

In any case the tappet cover thickness is not a critical dimension so no problems if a replacement one is thicker.
just use slightly longer bolts.
A lot of WM20's had as steel cover to save aluminium for aircraft.
I have seen steel ones some plain, some engraved with the crossed rifles while others have a contract plate riveted to them.
