The cable is to stop pulling it out all the way, is being held by a 1/4" bolt on the frame plate, but if too much trouble, cut it off!! no option to let it stick out of the tube.
Did you use some WD40?? sometimes it helps, if not I usually heat it up a lot, might work here too.
