Re: Spitfire and Mustang at Duxford

Beautiful! And that sound...
A modern plane is not alarming to my ears, but listening to this clip gave me the shudders again. Because when you heard this being on the road, or near a railroad track then usually this followed: taktaktaktak...
During the war, Mustangs far outnumbered the Spitfires (IMHO the most beautiful fighter ever built) in the sky above Amsterdam, because they covered the waves of B17's during daylight. Only from the beginning of 1945 on we spotted Spitfires , perhaps those unarmed photo reconnaissance planes.
We were well acquainted with the Allied war planes, because funnily the Germans distributed booklets with all the aircraft we could see in our skies

Great sound...The Spitfire with the Merlin soundtrack must be one of the most iconic British sensations..
And nothing matches the Spit aesthetically..a truly beautiful, balanced design...Ian
