leaking gearbox

Some time ago I replaced the mainshaft bearing for a "closed" one. But it is still leaking, this time between the shaft and bearing while running.
Could it be because there should be a "tight" fit. Now the mainshaft slide easily in the bearing.

Hi John..Do you mean the fit of the mainshaft in the sleeve gear (top gear) bushes?..Clearance between the shaft and bushes should be .0015"-.0035" on assembly.
I've just fitted a sealed bearing into my M20s gearbox..in fact I got it running again today. I also fitted new sleeve gear bushes at the lower tolerance (.0015") so I'll let you know how it goes after I take it out for a test run tomorrow....Ian

I have the gearbox out now, and will check the tolerance you mentioned. Also where the oil is coming from.
