The Main-shaft on my G3L (Part No:10-C-15) has taken a bad beating and the kicker side threading has been damaged beyond recognition.
I am trying to re-thread it and I am not sure whether this is a normal threading (Clockwise tight) or if it has opposite threading (Anti-clockwise tight)?
Please give me your advice on this
This is a left hand thread 7/16" X 26 tpi BSC Tavery. You can buy a new nut and pinnion gear from AMC Classic spares if you need them. But good luck with the thread. You can get the correct die from Tracy Tools. Ron
Hi Ron,
Thank you so much for the advice. Unfortunately the lathe guy threaded the shaft in the opposite direction i.e right hand thread. Will there be any problem? Should I change it?
No if he's made a reasonable job of the thread, just leave it, but put some loctite on the thread. It's only left hand thread to stop the nut spinning undone. Even when the nut is off, it's a job to get the pinnion off anyway. But you wouldn't want the nut rattling around your cam space Ron
