I found that a nice replacement for that horrible-to-get-in-and-out spring ring is a DIN472 52x2,0 Seeger ring; only, it is too thick and you have to reduce it to 1,65mm (.065").
I took a piece of hardwood, put two nails through the eyes, cut off the heads flush with the ring, and used a belt sander. Check regularly for thickness!
Well, you know Ian, those old farts have to keep themselves busy, otherwise SWMBO will come up with trivial things like house painting, mowing grass and the like

I kind of dislike these original rings and have grounded a few down in size myself. I think I had to remove a little less then hans had to. A ring that fit's immediately would be nice.
