Matchless G3L: Magneto Body Trouble

Hello, Today I was tightening my Magneto to the Mag platform/Clamp. I guess I applied a lot of force to tighten up that one of the threads on the magneto body got loose and I am no longer able to tighten it.The screw now rotates freely. What is the best possible way to re-thread this? Will Aluminium welding help or should I get an over size tap and re-thread it? Please advice

Re: Matchless G3L: Magneto Body Trouble

You could try JB Weld which can apparently be used to create a new thread, but I wouldn't trust it myself, so I'd do exactly what you suggest and re-tap it for a slightly larger bolt. You can't see the bolt heads, so who'd know. Apart form all of us of course.

Why not get it helicoiled?

Does anyone still do helicoiling? It would be the perfect plan if you can find someone. I suppose there must be loads of places still doing it, just nobody near me.

I also think It's the best thing to do.

You just need to get one at the needed measure and can install it yourself.

It has an outer and inner thread, and usually with a little skill and few basic tools it's doable DIY.

I know that usually good stores for pro' tools has it in stock.
