Can anyone please tell me in what year the War Department changed from the C number type of registration to the six number/ letter type that they still retain. Thanks John
Hi John, the late Bart Vanderveen says in one of his books:-
"From 1949/50 all vehicles then in service were renumbered with the now familiar system of two digits, two numbers, two digits. Only the Royal Navy (and Marines) still used four degit numbers with RN in front or behind. New vehicles were of coarse, also provided with the new registration numbers, whereby AA-AY were reserved for the RAF and RN for Navy and Marines. Ex WWII army vehicles were given numbers with letters from towards the end of the althabet."
