Hi all,
any links to an exploded diagram anywhere? I need to find the positioning of BSA part number 154233 "gear control quadrant spacing collar".
Thanks.
Hi Kev..it fits onto the gear change quadrant shaft, directly behind the tie rod that joins the footchange ratchet plate to the gear change quadrant shaft. (the left hand end of the tie rod as you face the gearbox)...Ian
Not scaring you further, but I built my last WM20 gearbox on the bench and had selection "issues" thereafter...............Ian mentioned later that these boxes need to be "timed" when actually in-motion or something like that ?
The steel oil flinger is important because without it there will be too much endfloat on the main shaft.
All three shafts should have .005" endfloat hence the shims I mentioned in my last post.
Hi, the mainshaft has a fixed position to the small ballbearing by the kickstartratchet assembly so I would say there should be no endfloat on this shaft at all.
The washers/shims are needed to get the pair of gears in line with eachother and to get the space between the dogs and the gearwheels equal. If these shims are left out, the dogs which have to catch the 3rd gearwheel will not fully engage and probably jump out under load.
Thanks so much for the pics and dimensions. Sadly for me the shift is very tight. I think I have a wrong bearing retainer washer and not sure of the dimensions of distance washer. Please help me with the dimensions and pics if someone has it handy. It will be extraordinarily helpful.

Hi Matt, that is very much in place and I used a very thin gasket for this purpose. Just want to know if I used the shims with the right thickness.

Hi did some more research from the site. Now here is the dimensions that I have got
Both Part 48 and Part 50 should be approx 0.78mm thick and part 48 is the steekl distance washer which is 2.98mm thick.
It is mentioned that Part 48 sits under the bearing in the inner cover. So is it like I have to remove the bearing to actually see if this shim is in place? or does it fit on the other side of the inner cover?
