fuel tank cap

Hi All

I have just striped my old fuel tank cap and found the remans of what looked like a leather ring ? it is only a pice of scrap left.I would like to know what size it was, so I can replace it.
Also what thickness is the oil tank support plate as I need to make one .
Thanks for the help in the past, it is getting closer to getting my 5 plus years box of bits and frame on the road.
Ian just fitting your fork spring and bearings only taken a little while

Re: fuel tank cap

Could that be the gasket I'm missing?

I drew the part extrapolating the dims. Now, you seem to have supplied the material that I never thought of using.

I was thinking it was cork sheet, but that is too brittle.

Congrats on your progress!

Re: fuel tank cap

I made mine of ethanol-resistant 3mm rubber-cork gasket material

Re: fuel tank cap

Sealing it totally is a bit optimistic. But there should be a bleed hole in the cap. Ron

Re: fuel tank cap

I use a gasket cut from the thinnest vinyl cushion flooring on both caps..It works well but I always have difficulty choosing between slate, terra cotta and wood grain finishes... ...Ian
