actually I am working on my 16H engine but I do not have a clue where to buy the following parts to make sure to receive good quality and not bad repro parts.
I bought a pair of NOS tappets and guides, plus a fork spring from a German seller at Beaulieu this year but stupidly didn't ask him for a card - he had a lot of NOS stuff.
Alain Touchet in France has a lot of NOS parts (I'm pretty sure that he has valves and guides).
Engines in the UK seem to go for anything between about £80 and £250 but of course there is no way of knowing what they're like inside. I bought three or four to build one good one. Sometimes the roughest looking engines have the best parts inside as they've been gathering dust since they were taken out in the 1950s.
I think that the best advice would be for you to cancel any engagements for the weekend of 28th / 29th April and attend the Stafford Classic Bike show. I'd be pretty confident that you'd find most of your wants list there.
Hi Phillip. I said you'd get some answers on here. Rik is a dedicated Norton man for starters. There is also another Dutch site that specialises in 16H and Big4's
Lots of information on there.(Google Norton WD 16H and Big4). Ron
Hi Philip..Nice project...and you still have 2 years to get it ready for the 70th anniversary of D Day!...If you are based in Germany Peter at Cornucopia Enterprises must be worth a try...He has a lot of WD parts for various makes...Ian
If your cams are bad, then probably the same goes for your cam followers?
I have some NOS cams and cam followers, but with some surface rust.
Piston: I still have some STD ones, all NOS.
Where abouts in Germany are you?
This forum is amazing, within hours perfect support and help from all around the world.
Thanks a lot to all of you. To know there is help out there will speed up my project definitely :-)
Just going through the forum and saw your item.
The number you give for the frame is not correct.
On my website (wdnorton.nl) you can see where to look for it.
The number your give is a casting number.
The engine numbers are clearly pre-war if they indeed do not show the W prefix.
67528 could be part of contract C9681 (deliveries starting March 1937)
71469 may be a civilian number of 1937.
sorry for the wrong data.
Ah, you are the one set up the wdnorton.nl page. Very nice. When I bought the 16H I used your Homepage to get as much infos about my bike. Was very helpfull Thanks.
I will send/post the correct frame number tomorrow.
I've had a quick look through the very fuzzy copies that I have from, some factory record pages. 67536 was a Model 19 despatched with a Bosch magneto on 16/5/1936 but I haven't found 67528.
If you can wait until April, I'll find them for you in the ledgers !
