1940 wm20 wiring

hi all, i took a look at the wiring diagram in the Technical info page and it states NEGATIVE EARTH for this diagram, would this be correct for a 1940 m20?
as i thought most older bikes were POSITIVE EARTH.
thanks barry

Re: 1940 wm20 wiring

-ve earth for your bike Barry, although you could wire it anyway you want providing your dynamo is polarised correctly

It seems +ve earth became common in the 50's & 60's, reduced corrosion effect they reckoned

I had thought like you this had been the case too

Re: 1940 wm20 wiring

The dynamo can be pos or neg earth. I think there is instructions on the technical page on how to polarize your dynamo. Ron

Re: 1940 wm20 wiring

On the tech page there are instructions some place, if not I have them somewhere

The dynamo can be polarised and the std regulator can operate in either format

Be careful if you go the electronic regulator route, then you are committed to -ve or +ve earth

Expensive if you get it wrong !!
