Mag drive idler pinion spindle

How can this part be removed from the case? The cam pinion spindles are easy, just push them out but for the idler a convenient hole is missing

Re: Mag drive idler pinion spindle

Hi Hans..The extractor for this is a tube with one blind end that has a 5/16" clearance hole through it. The tube bore is a clearance size on the spindle.
The tube is just over the length of the spindle that is showing, plus the part that is in the crankcase.
A 5/16" cycle bolt, with a nut fitted under the head, is then passed down the tube and screwed into the end of the spindle and when the nut is tightened against the outside of the blind end of the tube it pulls the spindle from the crankcase and into the tube..Hope that makes sense!!...Ian

I could have thought of that myself
Thanks Ian!

Re: Mag drive idler pinion spindle

As a matter of academic interest Hans there is another puller of the same pattern for pulling the cam spindles..even though there is a 'convenient hole' in the cases..For use no doubt when the crankcases aren't apart...Ian
