Another (unusual) NOS light switch

Further rummaging through my stock of bits has turned up an interesting NOS light switch. It has four positions..'OFF' 'C' 'LOW' and 'HIGH'.
I'm not sure what this one is for, so any information in that regard would be appreciated. It will be for sale once I have identified the application....Ian

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

hi ian,is the ''c'' position not for convoy? ie rear lamp only,
did you get fixed up with your 3hw crank journal yet?
cheers rick

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

Hi Rick..No, the standard WD switch has an extra 'T' position which denotes 'tail light only'. The switch I have may be a pre war one from a bike fitted with a 3 brush dynamo...but I'm not sure on that.
No luck as yet with the 3HW timing side mainshaft...Ian

Ian, do you have a photo of that timing shaft?

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

C is for charge, these are pre-war old fashioned dynamos.

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

Hi Michiel..No it looks identical to the WD switch except for the markings..
Hi Henk..Ron also suggested it might be for use with 3 brush dynamos on pre war machines...Ian

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

There should be a resistor coil in this switch as far as I know.

Re: Another (unusual) NOS light switch

Hey Ian, it is indeed a charge position switch, for use with three brush dynamos. When fitted in the headlamp panel, a half charge resistor was fitted to the panel, you may have seen these panels with an odd right angle bracket riveted on between the switch and ammeter.
Cheers, Mick.
