Saddle frame colour

Were these originally black, or the same colour as the rest of the bike

Re: Saddle frame colour

I know that the 16H was OD, but I think that the BSA was black. All of what I found were.

Re: Saddle frame colour

Mine is green, same as original frame colour.
I can't say for sure if the saddle is original to the bike, but it matches what appears to be the original green paint, and doesn't appear to have been re-painted.

Re: Saddle frame colour

mine, being a 1944 bike, was green , several shades of it, but no black. I reckon the first shade was a deep , almost gloss green

Re: Saddle frame colour

I'm confused: black or green or OD

Re: Saddle frame colour

Make it green Hans, mine may have been repainted later, although no sign of OD underneath. And as you know, they are from the ME where the colour scheme may have been different the European sector.

Re: Saddle frame colour

The Terry's on my Norton clearly had a Khaki Green No.3 frame and had never been repainted. The LV7 specifies Lycett but not the frame colour and I'd suspect that both manufacturers were painting all WD saddles in the service colour.

Post war replacement saddles are likely to have had black frames as that is what would have been supplied for civilian production.

Re: Saddle frame colour

Now my powder-coater can go to work with RAL6014
