Aahh, the contraceptives!! well they're full of holes I can tell you, but I'll bring some to Malvern, even early 16H's had them, have photographical evidence now!

Here are DIAL patterns, but they never answer emails if the order is below 200 quid!!

They appear in most (but not all) BEF era photographs of Nortons.

Refering to the Norton Parts Lists, they were certainly included as part no. 3971 - 'Rubber for Twist Grip Control Body' in the 'Important' supplementary list at the front from at least Contract C5109 (commencing W1000) which was the first wartime contract in late 1939 and they were still listed up to and including C9062 (W44893)which takes us to the middle of 1941.

These changes generally took a while to be reflected in the lists so I'd suspect Mid-1939 to Early 1941 dates.

I rather suspect that W27680 should have one !

I have no idea if they appear in the lists of other manufacturers.

Re: rubber proof twist grip covers,

They are mentioned in the spares list for BSA M20 contract C6126 frame WM20 18001-21000.

"Twist grip body rubber cover (price on application) 66-8901".

I don't know if is the same as the Norton version because the M20 had 7/8" bars?

Re: rubber proof twist grip covers,

Have never seen evidence of use with Matchlesses, but who knows?

The replica's fit both 7/8 and inch bars.

Cheers,

Lex

Re: rubber proof twist grip covers,

it was a good idea for the desert would keep most of the sand out if there is any left what is the price

Re: rubber proof twist grip covers,

I bought one from Lex for my 16H which I completely f*cked up whilst trying to fit it. Lex very kindly gave me another one which I am now frightened to fit. I imagine they must be a right bastard if you have to replace the throttle cable on the road side. Ron

Re: rubber proof twist grip covers,

Give me the torn one back Ron, and you'll get another, it's no problem.

But it's abugger to fit, have done about 6 now, and no problems, if you follow the "procedure" that I still have to write down

The price?? cannot remember right now, something like 25 pounds. (the mould alone cost us 600 quid!)

Cheers,

Lex

In that case Rik, maybe I had better order one!
Could you mail me details?
Cheers, Mick.
